After defeating KXIP by seven wickets and emerging on top with 18 points, Dhoni said: "By topping the table and playing in Qualifier 1 just gives us a cushion of an extra match. If we have that one bad game, it gives us another chance to get into the final."
CSK will be playing in Qualifier 1 in Mumbai on Tuesday, and if they win that game they will move into the final and in case they lose, they will get another chance to make it to the final by playing the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.

"It is just a strategy and thus finishing in top-two is what all teams aim for," he said. Dhoni, however, said that the team was not desperate for a win as they had already made it to the playoffs.
"We took it as a game we had to win, but we were not desperate. However, it was a good match for us going into the play-offs and with a good performance, the team moves to Mumbai with confidence in place."
He further said that David Miller's catch by Ravindra Jadeja was the game-changer. "It was a fantastic one. Jadeja made it look easy and it was a great effort. The art lies in making it look easy."

"Same is with batting. We have made it quite simple. We want to adapt, we want to improve. A lot of teams emphasize on bringing in youngsters and make them good players. We have not emphasised on that. But you could say we have had international cricketers and made good captains out of them."
Dhoni was obviously referring to the likes of Brendon McCullum who led New Zealand with such flair in the World Cup and also may be it was a hint to the Indian selectors on Suresh Raina's ability as an Indian captain for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh, in which some of the top stars are sure to be rested.
